Cat rescue fundraiser and visit from two friendly goats make for a memorable community event

Village on the St. Clair’s most recent open house offered an opportunity to showcase the vibrant lifestyle the Sarnia seniors living community offers, while also raising money for a local animal charity and welcoming some special guests from a nearby farm.
Cat Chance, a volunteer-run cat rescue, hosted a booth during the Aug. 22 event to raise money to support the felines in its care. As part of the open house, a “toonie barbecue” was held, with all proceeds going directly to the charity.
The meet-and-greet event was attended by the Village’s residents and team members, as well as community members and prospective residents.
Evelyn Babcock, the Village’s fun co-ordinator, says Cat Chance has several animals requiring veterinary care, and the funds raised at the open house are going directly towards helping them receive the care they need.
“As a pet-friendly community for small animals, this was a cause that was especially meaningful to us and our residents,” Evelyn tells S&R Today.
“Cat Chance was incredibly grateful for the generous support from our residents and the public.”
The Village also demonstrated its love for animals by welcoming two “very friendly” goats – named Luna and Sweetheart – from Kilted Farms, located in nearby Brigden. Team members set up the Village’s courtyard to play host to a mini petting zoo for residents, team members and visitors.
“Our residents absolutely loved the opportunity to get up close, interact with, and cuddle these wonderful animals,” Evelyn says. “We are very grateful to Kilted Farms for being part of our open house and creating such a memorable experience for our residents.”
Evelyn says the Village enjoys a community partnership with Kilted Farms, and residents and team members are looking forward to visiting the farm in the coming months.
“The farm is home to many more animals for us to meet, as well as a farm store that we are excited to explore,” she says.
Evelyn says the open house was a success and provided an opportunity to bring residents, community members and local organizations together.
“It was a wonderful event that showcased our community’s love of animals while giving back to local organizations,” she says. “We are so grateful to everyone who came out and supported our residents and these important community causes.”
