Twin Lakes Village residents get star treatment from Lambton College students

‘Our ladies were made to feel like the glamorous ladies that they are’

The women living at Twin Lakes Village were recently treated to free makeovers, courtesy of students from the esthetics and hairstylist (ESTH) program at Lambton College.

During what was dubbed Glamorous Grandma Day, the women living at the Sarnia seniors living community had their hair and nails done by the students as a special treat.

“Our ladies were made to feel like the glamorous ladies that they are,” Kerry Andriash, the Village’s fun co-ordinator, tells S&R Today.

Glenda McMillans, one of the residents who participated in the event, says she enjoyed the spa day.

“It was a fun experience getting all dressed up,” Glenda says. “It was great because it made me feel special.”

Kerry got the idea to have a special spa day for residents and reached out to the college to see if the students could help. She says the program’s facilitators were immediately on board and welcomed the group to come by.

In addition to getting all the treatments that come with an esthetician visit, the residents were treated to punch and cookies.

While the residents received their pampering from the students, Kerry took photos to capture the special moments and give residents memories of their glamorous day.

The ESTH program trains students in several aspects of spa services, including manicures, pedicures, body treatments and makeup application.

According to the Lambton College website, students learn skills “in one of the largest training labs in Canada, with state-of-the-art facilities that prepare students for this growing profession.”

Kerry says the day was a perfect opportunity to make the residents feel special and enjoy an experience they might not otherwise have.

“I thought (this was) a great way to make our ladies feel special and do something for them that they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to do,” she says.
