Residents reminisce about their school days while offering words of wisdom to today’s students

When students went back to school on Sept. 8, the residents of Twin Lakes Village took time to share some advice for the new school year.
Kerry Andriash, the fun co-ordinator at the Sarnia seniors living community, hatched the idea to have residents write their advice on a white board that they held up and had their photos taken with.
Some of the advice residents shared included:
“Look and listen … always!”
“Make sure you get all your school work done!”
“Be more eager to learn and get along with others.”
“Do as instructed by your teacher!”
“Enjoy your school year and make lots of new friends.”
Kerry says her motivation behind the project was to get residents to think about their own time at school and share the lessons they learned when they were students embarking on a new school year.
“This idea was to give the residents the opportunity to reminisce about their younger days and what it was like for them when they went to school,” she tells S&R Today.
“The idea came to me when I was reminiscing about my school days and advice was given to me from grandparents and parents.”
Once the photos were taken, they were shared on the Village’s Facebook page, where they have generated lots of attention.
Asked what the greatest success was from the project, Kerry says it was seeing how much the residents enjoyed participating and sharing their ideas.
“The residents enjoyed this activity because it gave them the opportunity to share stories with one another and remember their younger school days,” she says.
