Landmark Village residents are making the most of summer outings

Annual blueberry farm visit, lunch trips and theatre outings highlight summer fun

By Deron Hamel – August 21, 2026

For the fifth straight year, Landmark Village residents eagerly headed to a blueberry farm for an outing that has become a much-anticipated fan favourite tradition at the Sarnia seniors living community.

This is one of the recent outings that residents have enjoyed, and more are planned through the rest of summer, says Brent Hart, the Village’s activity manager.

Brent says the annual trip to Parks Blueberries in Bothwell has become such a flagship event of the season that residents will approach him, asking, “When are we going?” weeks in advance.

Nestled on a farm between Bothwell and Thamesville in southwestern Ontario, Parks Blueberries is the go-to spot in the region for anything and everything “blueberry.” The farm sells blueberries and also has a cafe and gift shop.

“(The outing) makes for a lovely 45-minute drive there and back, and residents enjoyed having lunch and shopping around,” Brent tells S&R Today.

Lunch outings have long been a favourite way to spend summer afternoons for residents, and Landmark Village has planned several of these this summer.

Residents get to choose the spots where they’d like to have lunch, preferably outdoors, where everyone can enjoy the fresh air, Brent says. So far, there have been outings to Purdy’s in Point Edward for fish and chips and Skeeter Barlow’s in Bright’s Grove, Brent notes.

“We have plans to enjoy the Nineteenth Bar & Grill at Huron Oaks Golf Club and Grog’s in Grand Bend,” he adds. “With summer weather, we plan plenty of outings to enjoy it while it lasts.”

There are also two summer visits planned to the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia, Brent says.

Brent says having access to the Village’s shuttle is a major reason Landmark Village residents can take as many summer outings as they do.

“Having a shuttle is an amazing asset that lets me plan fun outings with the input of the residents here,” he says.
