Landmark Village team members focused on strong resident engagement this Valentine’s Day, hosting a social event filled with games and live music, says Brent Hart, the Sarnia seniors living community’s activity manager.
Brent says the highlight of the Feb. 14 celebration was a dice game in which residents rolled for the chance to pick a piece of candy from a bowl at the centre of the table, pass one to another resident or take one from a fellow contestant.
“The laughter came when sixes were rolled, because that meant taking a piece of candy from someone else,” Brent tells S&R Today. “The residents had so much fun with this game and it had everyone talking with each other.”
The celebration also featured live music. Brent booked piano player Brenda Earle Stokes to perform love songs for an hour before dinner.
As they do for all special occasions, Landmark Village food services team members prepared a themed dinner to help residents mark the holiday, Brent adds.
The music, he says, proved to be an effective way to spark conversation and reflection.
“It was a nice treat and the songs brought back special memories for the residents,” he says.
While Valentine’s Day is traditionally a celebration of love, at Landmark Village it is also about connection and socialization, Brent says.
“The main focus was getting residents together and getting them chatting and laughing, which all came together,” he says.
