Friday gatherings offer exercise, activities, educational presentations and live entertainment

Rosewood Village is bringing local seniors together every Friday for a social club that combines exercise, activities, good food, educational presentations and live entertainment.
Held every Friday, the Seniors Social Club is a community engagement event designed to keep residents and local seniors active, social and informed, explains Aastha Singh, Rosewood Village’s life enrichment co-ordinator.
The event is open to Rosewood Village residents and all seniors in the local community, including those from other retirement communities. Activities throughout the day vary and may include playing pool, participating in drum circles and enjoying pet visits.
The club’s events start at 9:30 a.m. with exercises led by Diane, a representative from the local chapter of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON). The exercise session is followed by coffee and snacks so everyone can “relax and recharge,” Aastha says.
Lunch is prepared by Rosewood Village’s chefs, who serve a variety of nutritious, balanced and tasty meals.
For an hour after lunch, representatives from local organizations as well as professionals lead educational presentations on a wide range of topics important to seniors.
Some of the groups that have participated include Specsavers, Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario and representatives from the local Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Live entertainment is another regular feature each week, with local musicians and bands from across Sarnia and Lambton County performing for the club.
Aastha says Rosewood Village strives to include as many local seniors in these events as possible.
“We’re always happy to welcome new faces to Rosewood Village,” she says.
