For 60 years, Robert Chambers has been a dedicated member of the Shriners.
Robert, who resides at Rosewood Village, was recently honoured at a dinner hosted by the Lambton Shrine Club where he received a pin recognizing his six decades as a member of the fraternal order.
Bev James, Rosewood Village’s fun co-ordinator, says the Shriners has been an important part of Robert’s life and he was deeply honoured to have received the accolade.
“He was very excited and he got all dressed up for the night,” she tells S&R Today. “He was pretty proud; he has been a Shriner for most of his life.”
Bev says Robert still regularly attends Shriners meetings, adding members will come to the Sarnia seniors living community to pick him up whenever there is a Shiners event.
The Shriners International website describes the organization as a “fraternity based on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth.”
The fraternity is strongly focused on philanthropy and community service.
Bev says she’s happy Robert received the acknowledgement from the Shriners, knowing how much the organization means to him.
“He’s a really nice fellow and a really good guy,” she says.
