Residents enjoy tropical treats, flamingo-themed fun and an afternoon of togetherness

A recent social event at the Village on the Thames brought summer sunshine indoors, along with some Caribbean flair, to the Chatham-Kent seniors living community.
Danielle Whitmarsh, the Village’s fun co-ordinator, describes the July 22 Flamingo Mingle event as “a day filled with island vibes, smiles and togetherness.”
The Village was decorated with an island theme, including an array of flamingos that adorned the dining room and were even featured on the “delicious cupcakes” prepared by a team member.
In addition to the flamingo cupcakes, residents enjoyed a variety of fresh tropical fruit and refreshing fruit-based drinks.
Throughout the afternoon, residents gathered around tables to chat, enjoy the refreshments and take in the colourful decorations, creating a relaxed atmosphere that encouraged conversation and laughter.
Danielle says residents were wowed by the vibrant colours the food and decorations brought to the social.
“They especially loved seeing all the bright colours and fun-themed accessories that helped bring the celebration to life,” she tells S&R Today.
Danielle adds that the day was made “even more special” by one resident’s family member, who brought her own flamingo decorations to help create a festive and cheerful atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
Danielle says the event created a lasting impression on the residents, families and team members who attended.
“It was a beautiful afternoon filled with laughter, connection and wonderful memories,” she says. “Our residents had such a great time and are already looking forward to the next social gathering.”
