Summer is in full swing and the residents of Landmark Village have been taking full advantage of the season by participating in a wide variety of events and activities offered by the Sarnia seniors living community.
Some of the programs residents have been enjoying include an excursion on an annual boat cruise, a Canada Day party with musical entertainment, and a trip to a local chip truck, says activity manager Brent Hart.
Every summer, local long-term care and seniors living communities participate in the Sarnia Seniors Cruise. S&R Group residences always participants in the event. The cruise down the St. Clair River aboard the Duc D’Orleans II began in 1978 when Sarnia radio host Peter Henderson organized the first event. Since then, the cruise has become an iconic event each summer in Sarnia.
Landmark Village participated in the cruise once again at the end of June, and it was such a popular event that two trips were organized, Brent says.
“The residents had a great time on the Duc D’Orleans II, taking a boat ride down the river,” he tells S&R Today.
On July 1, Landmark Village hosted a Canada Day party to celebrate the country’s 158th birthday. A highlight of the event was a performance from pianist Frank St. Germain, who played for two hours that afternoon.
“Frank is a high-energy performer who brings great music and humour to his show,” Brent says.
Landmark Village residents recently visited a chip truck – a classic summer tradition in Ontario – and enjoyed their fries by the scenic Blue Water Bridge.
Brent says summer is a favourite season at the Village, and residents and team members want to make the most of it.
“The nice weather comes and goes too quickly, so we make sure to get out and enjoy it as much as we can,” he says. “It’s a joy to be able to plan things that make the residents here at Landmark smile.”
