A Landmark Village team member’s idea to create a fun and unique outing for residents of the Sarnia seniors living community quickly became a reality – one that’s left everyone with lasting memories and lots of smiles and laughs.
A few weeks ago, fun co-ordinator Candice Simpson approached activity manager Brent Hart with a suggestion to organize a resident outing to Lambton Mall so they could ride the Stuffy Riders.
Stuffy Riders are large, electronic plush animals that children and adults alike can ride for fun. They’re rented out by a Vancouver-based company – also called Stuffy Riders – to shopping centres and other venues.
“It was a great idea and I knew it would make for some great pictures, too,” Brent tells S&R Today.
Brent and Candice chose an afternoon and invited four residents to give the Stuffy Riders a try. Once they arrived at the mall, the residents picked their Stuffy of choice and were soon having lots of fun.
“They caught on quick and their smiles and laughter were amazing to watch,” Brent says.
Shoppers smiled or cheered them on with comments like, “Way to go!” as the residents rode the Stuffy Riders, which included a donkey, a cow, a rabbit and a unicorn.
“It was not only a blast for the residents but to see everyone else enjoying ‘the show’ was great,” Brent says.
Even staff from nearby stores came to the entrances to watch the fun unfold, Brent adds.
“I’m glad Candice brought the idea to me,” he says. “We make a great team here planning fun things and keeping the residents on their toes.”
