The S&R Group’s mission is “Creating communities that are good for life” – and the spirit of this mission can extend beyond the organization, as Waterloo Heights recently demonstrated.

Waterloo Heights purchased sponsorships for two water filters that will each provide 20 cubic metres of clean drinking water per year to two families for 25 years in developing countries.

The sponsorships were the honorarium the Waterloo, Ont. seniors living community provided for a presentation from Bruce Taylor, the founder and president of Enviro-Stewards, an Elmira, Ont.-based company that strives to improve water and energy conservation as well as prevent pollution and promote sustainable communities.

Bruce was at Waterloo Heights recently to deliver a presentation to residents and team members about the difference his company is making in pollution prevention, water and energy conservation, and treatment process design.

He’s also the son of resident Marg Taylor.

This is the second time Waterloo Heights has sponsored water filters. In 2022, Waterloo Heights purchased sponsorhips for two water filters from Enviro-Stewards to bring clean water to families in northern Uganda.

Waterloo Heights sponsored the water filters through the Safe Water Project, a social enterprise that was launched by Enviro-Stewards in 2004. The project’s work is described on the Enviro-Stewards website.

“The Safe Water Project’s focus is to provide training, tools, and mentoring to equip social ventures with the ability to provide safe water to their communities,” the website says.

“To accomplish this goal, we work with grassroots groups to build local capacity, provide meaningful employment, and to empower these communities to help their neighbours to do the same.”
