Delicious food, live entertainment and a fun atmosphere were among the highlights of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration held at Village on the Thames on March 17.
“St. Patrick’s Day was in full swing, bringing a lively and festive atmosphere for both residents and staff,” Danielle Whitmarsh, the Village’s fun co-ordinator, tells S&R Today.
“Everyone got into the spirit of the day, proudly wearing their best green attire – it was wonderful to see such enthusiastic participation throughout the community.”
St. Patrick’s Day is a favourite celebration among residents of S&R Group seniors living and long-term care communities, and the Village on the Thames is no exception.
The Chatham-Kent seniors living community started St. Patrick’s Day this year by offering residents a charcuterie board filled with a wide selection of favourite snacks in the morning, Danielle says. This was followed by cookies with green icing that were offered ahead of the pub event later in the day.
During the pub event, residents gathered to enjoy more food as well as green pina coladas, while the activity room was filled with Irish pub music, setting the “perfect tone” for the celebration, Danielle adds.
A favourite part of the day was a performance by students from a local Irish dance school that captivated those attending, Danielle says.
“It was a full house, with residents and staff coming together to watch the talented dancers,” she says. “The performance was a huge success, and the dancers did an excellent job entertaining everyone.”
While everyone had a fun time this St. Patrick’s Day, the biggest highlight was seeing how much the residents enjoyed the event, Danielle says.
“Overall, the day was filled with smiles, laughter and a strong sense of community,” she says.
