5-star food and entertainment highlight Waterloo Heights' Black Tie Valentine's evening

Waterloo Heights’ Black Tie Valentine’s dinner was once again a smash hit with residents, who enjoyed top-notch food and entertainment on Feb. 13.

The annual Black Tie dinner gives residents a chance to dress up and experience an evening of first-class entertainment and fine dining – all from the comfort of home.

In recent years, the event has been combined with Valentine’s Day festivities “to make the evening extra special,” explains Waterloo Heights activity director Jacqui Metzloff.

Chef Ben and the food services team made a meal fit for a five-star restaurant that included lobster, ribs, garlic mashed potatoes with gravy, carrots and asparagus. A berry cheesecake was served for dessert.

There was live entertainment courtesy of A Record Day, a resident-favourite musical combo, and champagne topped with candy-floss clouds, which were held above the bubbles with a heart-shaped skewer, was also served.

Some of the people on the Waterloo, Ont. seniors living community’s waiting list were invited to attend the dinner to give them a preview of life at Waterloo Heights, Jacqui notes.

Team members opened the event early so residents could have their photo taken in front of a special backdrop on the way in.

“Staff and volunteers worked really hard to make the night special and fun,” Jacqui tells S&R Today.

Additionally, team members gave out door prizes that included a mimosa and brunch gift basket, two snack baskets, potted plants and chocolate-covered strawberries.

In the spirit of promoting local businesses, the strawberries were purchased from House of Cakes by D., who were at Waterloo Heights the week before to sell Valentine’s Day-themed treats to residents.

Jacqui says the evening could not have gone better.

“It was a very successful night,” she says.
